“Leading Through Fear, Serving Through Purpose”
For Pan Perera, leadership is service and ownership – especially in the face of fear. This belief was born early in his life. As the eldest child in his family, Pan carried the weight of responsibility during difficult financial times. At just 21, while completing his degree, he was also supporting his parents. That sense of duty deepened when he migrated to Australia in 2015. Starting from zero, he faced 516 rejections before securing his first professional job. Yet, each challenge taught him that true leadership means choosing growth over comfort, and service over ego.
A defining moment came in 2021 when Pan made a life-changing decision – leaving a secure six-figure managerial role at Honda to launch Elevar Career Coaching. Many called it risky, but Pan saw a greater danger in staying safe and losing purpose. That leap into uncertainty shaped his leadership philosophy: to go first, to risk fear and failure, so others can see what’s possible for them. Since then, he has helped more than 230 migrants find meaningful careers and rebuild confidence in their new lives.
Pan leads with three core values – awareness, service and truth. His leadership style is transformational and human-centred. He doesn’t lead with titles or authority but by example – showing that fear and uncertainty don’t define success. He believes leadership is not about commanding others, but about helping people find clarity and agency in themselves.
The toughest decision of his life was walking away from certainty. He had built a respected career in Australia, something his family deeply valued after their struggles. But deep down, he knew he was living small. Leaving that job to start Elevar was terrifying but it was also freeing. He faced his fear with awareness, broke the decision into small steps and reminded himself that his mission was bigger than his comfort.
Having led across cultures and generations, Pan learned that leadership is more about listening than speaking. Trust, he says, comes from patience, openness and vulnerability – the courage to be real.
Through Elevar and now Unlayered, his life coaching brand, Pan continues to help people break free from the “survival script” and live with self-awareness. His legacy, he says, is simple: “I don’t want people to remember me. I want them to remember the moment they realised – I already had the power. I just needed to see it”.
